I Am Not My Mother's Daughter

Lily, Mary & my Mum, Mary Lou - sisters

I look like my Mum(do not tell her that I have just admitted to this!). I like to sew & make things like she does. I'm loud like my Mum(& god, is she loud!), I like to laugh like she does. I probably got my singing thing from her too. I think that's all I inherited from her. I'm not my Mother's Daughter. I do not have her cleaning gene(ask The Man of the House, he can vouch for that), I don't wake up early, I'm not a good Catholic, I don't always put my kids before myself. I do not give away perfectly good things because I am a clean/neat freak. I do not give away perfectly awesome clothes from the 60s & 70s. I do not give my wedding dress that was handmade by my sister in Malta in 1964 to the Salvos when I move halfway around the world just after I get married.

I think I'm more like my Dad(again, don't tell him this either!). I have his temper(a quick European temper!), his lack of patience. I have his I'll-keep-this-because-I-might-need-this-some-day-before-the-end-of-time attitude. An attitude he got from his Aunties(so I've worked out from what I've heard of them). He inherited the 'hoarder' gene. I got that too. Sometimes I worry that I may end up in an episode of Hoarders so I get rid of a heap of stuff only for my piles of just-in-case stuff to grow again.

Piper is her Mother's Daughter. She looks like me. She's stubborn like me(actually, I think she may be worse!), she's got a temper, she loves to sing & make up songs, she also did not inherit the cleaning gene. She inherited the 'hoarder' gene too. She has 'collections'. She keeps things 'just in case I need them later.' She tells me to keep my clothes for when she gets 'big'. She tells me to keep her things for when she has babies. I laugh because I know that I will!
