Cake bunting is cute! It's not just for birthday cakes, it's perfect for any cake & any celebration. Or just for a cake to share with friends for afternoon tea. What about some Christmas cake bunting? Now there's an idea!
Here's how!
What you'll need:
:: Fabric
:: Vlisoflex, Heat & Bond or something similar
:: Bamboo Skewers
:: Iron
:: Scissors
:: Craft glue
:: Sewing machine
::
Cut a strip of your chosen bonding stuff(straight to the technical words!) & place it rough side down(with the smooth paper part on top) on the wrong side of your fabric. Go over it wthyour iron a few times so that it sticks to your fabric. Make sure you check the instructions of your bonding stuff as they all have different temperatures etc.
Now peel the paper off.
This is what you're left with.
Fold your fabric over wrong sides together & go over it with your iron again. Your fabric will now have bonded.
Make a template of your triangle. You can make your triangles as big or as small as you like. Mine are about 2cm across the base(I didn't measure them at the time, I just eyeballed it & drew a freehand triangle).
Now cut as many triangles as you want for your bunting. With the size of my triangles I used 5. Whatever number you choose to go with I suggest you choose an odd number, this way your bunting will hang nicely.
Here are a zillion triangles ready to be made into a few sets of bunting!
Over at your sewing machine, pull your threads out so that you start sewing your flags together with about a 15 - 20cm tail.
Keep sewing your lags together leaving around a 2cm space between each flag. Leave a 15cm - 20cm tail after you hav sewn your last triangle before cutting your thread.
Lay your bunting out on your work space & admire your handy work. Almost done!
Now grab your skewers & craft glue.
Put some craft glue on your skewer around 2cm down from the top(the blunt end) of your skewer.
Wind one of the long ends of your thread around your skewer, right on top of the glue. Place some more craft glue over the top of the wrapped thread & rub it over the thread.
Now repeat on the other side. And you're done!
Once they've dried you can pop them on top of your cake.
Tah-dah!
